First seperate edition of a lecture delivered by Bohr before the Physical Society of Copenhagen on October 18, 1921. In this lecture Bohr attacked the problem of atomic constitution by asking the question: "How may an atom be formed by the successive capture of the electrons one by one in the field of force surrounding the nucleus?" The answers are found primarly from an analysis of the observed spectra with quidance from the chemical properties and the correspondance principle. (Collected Works, vol. 4, pp.20).
