Contemporary polished sprinkled calf, spine with 5 raised bands, boards with some blind- and gilt-tooling, upper board with gilt embossed crowned triangle and initial "R" (lowe board detached, some rubbing to extremities). Wing B1987 - SECOND EDITION of Edward Bernard's enlarged and amended version of a letter prefixed to Dr. Pocock's "Commentary on Hosea" (1685), in which he describes ancientb and classical weight scales. The work concludes with the treatise "De mensuris and ponderibus sinensium epistola" by the famous English orientalist Thomas Hyde (1636-1703) who was a professor of Hebrew at Queen's College in Oxford and curator-in-chief of the Bodleian Library. Edward Bernard, philologist and English scholar (1638-1697), very versed in ancient and eastern languages, in the physical and mathematical sciences, is the author of many books.
