Contemporary half calf over marbled boards, spine with gilt decoration, gilt-lettered labels and additional printed and hand-lettered paper label, brown sprinkled edges, original light-blue endpapers (leather and extremities rubbed, minor wear to corners). Little age-toning and minor occasional spotting. Provenance: Lycee Faidherbe de Lille (title and some text pages with old library stamp, shelf mark in manuscript to title). Good copy, collated complete. ----
FIRST EDITION. Arago's official report of the invention of the the photographic process, called daguerréotype, was published in the journal Comptes Rendues at the end of 1839 (July-December issue), but it was preceeded by this announcement published in the July issue of the Annales de Chimie et de Physique.
