FIRST EDITION, SECOND PRINTING, limited to 500 copies. John Fulton described this paper that Cushing delivered at the Dartmouth Medical School as one of Cushing's "most attractive general addresses." Cushing encouraged the medical students to read books by William Osler (Aequanimitas), S. Weir Mitchell (Characteristics), Stephen Paget (Confessio Medici), Howard Kelly (Walter Reed), and Lewellys Barker (The Young Man in Medicine), among others.
