THE FIRST PRINTED CATALOG OF LUNAR SAMPLES EVER PUBLISHED AND VERY RARE TODAY. Only 400 copies of this catalog were printed (and intended for NASA internal use only), and it is now considered a collector's item.
This first catalog was a rapid compilation of the information about the lunar samples returned from the Apollo 11 mission. Its purpose was to provide the lunar-sample principal investigators with information about the total lunar- samples returned and specific information about individual samples that were available at that time and distributed for detailed work. As stated in the introduction, the catalog was for NASA internal use only, and not a document that should be cited or referenced in subsequent publications. The information in this catalog was collected primarily by the Lunar Sample Preliminary Examination Team and the Lunar Field Geology Experiment Team during and immediately after the Apollo 11 mission. Much of the sample information was collected under less than optimum conditions in a short time, and all data were considered preliminary.
In order to have the catalog available at the time of the first sample distribution, it was necessary to take many short cuts in its preparation. Much of the descriptive information concerning individual samples was raw computer print-out, unedited for form or content, and many portions of the catalog did not conform to NASA MSC publication standards. - Visit our website to see more images!
